Carlton Youth Football Club![]() Description: The Carlton Youth Football Club (CYFC) has been established as a non-profit organisation aimed at catering to the needs of disadvantaged young people living mainly in Housing Commission developments in Carlton. Managed primarily by student volunteers, the CYFC exists on funding from community grants, sponsorship and fundraising from a range of organisations including Trinity College, The Foundation for Young Australians, the Victorian Multicultural Commission, the City of Melbourne and the Adult Multicultural Education Services. Ms Tan says that in giving financially disadvantaged youths the opportunity to participate in an organised sport, the club aids integration of young migrant families into the wider Australian community. Most of the club’s players are between 14 and 18, and come from diverse backgrounds including Eritrea, Hungary, Somalia, Sudan, Turkey and Vietnam. Training sessions are held in Clifton Hill on Wednesdays, with volunteers providing transport, equipment, water and uniforms.
